Just a quick word to let you know that Anime Central has officially closed. The university of Montreal SAE "got wind" that we charged a fee to become a club member. Since we were not allowed to do that, they have banned us from there. So in other words, we cannot have a projection room on the campus and as a consequence we cannot keep the club going.

We want to thank everyone that came to the club and apologize to those who wanted to join the club again (or for the first time). But we feel we have been blessed to have the club going for so long and this is all thanks to you the members.

Now anime has become a lot more mainstream then when the club started out. We feel in a way that what we had set out to do when the club started has been accomplished, and that is to make people (re)discover anime. We hope that even though the club is gone that you'll keep enjoying anime and Japanese culture in general. The website will stay up for as long as the hosts allow them to be. There are a lot of resources on these pages and we feel they might be useful.

I had a great time keeping the website up and running and organising the club with the other officers. I hope we will see you in the futur in conventions or at another club (maybe, we never know). Untill then take care of yourselves.

Pierre Robitaille, ex-webmaster for Anime Central Japanese Animation Club in Montreal

Club members, if you want to keep the club going we need your help and fast. We need help from club members that are full time students at the University of Montreal. If you are interested please contact us asap. Putting it simply, the survival of the club depends on it!

On a different topic, the tentative date for the beginning of the semester was september 1st, but it will probably be september the 8th instead. We will keep you posted on this through the mailing list and the website of course. So bear with us for a little longer and things should get back to normal pretty soon.

2001-06-15

We wanted to thank everyone that came to the meeting last night. We hope the prizes were appreciated ^_^ So that is it for this semester. We will see you in late August or early September for another season of anime. In the mean time have a great summer!!

2001-06-14

The end of the school semester is here and it is time for our traditionnal drawing. Lots of prizes this semester (more details at the club meeting room). Tickets are 1$ and the limit is 25 tickets per person. We thank you all for your patience, this semester was very bad for us. We hope that next fall things will go smoother with the university autorithies.

2001-04-07

The club's meeting will be resuming Saturday April 7th at 5 pm, room B2325. New schedules will be handed out. But please note that WE DO NOT YET HAVE CONFIRMATION about the availability of the projection room. So there is a good chance we won't be able to get in!! Ask the president of the club if you have any further questions.

I want to thank everyone for being VERY patient. I still don't understand why the University got our coordinates mixed up in the first place and why they are being so uncooperative, trust me this is far from being settled. Again thank you very much for your patience.

2001-03-17

The club's meeting are canceled until further notice. We are still having problems with the University of Montreal and they do not seem to be willing to collaborate with us very much. We will post here when we will resume the presentations.

2001-03-08

Saturday March 10th's meeting is canceled. We are having problems with the SAE and the Regie des Immeubles from University of Montreal which leave us no other choice than to cancel this week's meeting. Please tell everyone you know that doesn't have internet access. Our "portal" website on InfiniT was removed since the owner has canceled his subscription to the IP. Anyway we will try to get it to go up again asap. We are very sorry for the mess but it is out of our control.

2001-01-25

This week's meeting will be held in room B-0245 (in the basement). Next week, the meeting will be held in the usual room, B-2325. We are very sorry for the inconveniences.

2001-01-16

Next showing is in room B-2325 (the usual projection room) on the second floor. The libraries (audio/video) will be available starting next week (January 20th). Please take note of a few changes that were put in place for this semester. Members can rent one video tape from the "regular" video section and either one audio tape or one video tape from the new SPECIAL (SP) sections or from the ORIENT EXTREME (OE) sections of the library. We hope that you will like this new option and feel free to voice your comments/suggestions. Thank you all and have a good semester.

2000-12-09

The showings ended on December 9th and as usual, we held a drawing of anime goodies: mangas, CDs, scrolls, etc. We hope you enjoyed the Surprise Anime: Escaflowne Movie! We are sorry for the poor quality of the source, but hope you could enjoy it anyways.

The first meeting next semester is on January 13th room B-0245 (that's the big amphetheater in the basement). A few changes will take effect, namely in the video library: titles will be pulled out and new ones brought in. There were quite a few commercial acquisitions last semester so we have to adjust accordingly, we are deeply sorry for any inconveniences. We hope to post next semester's schedule soon, so check the site once in a while. Untill then, have a good holiday season, Merry Christmass and Happy New Year from all of us at the club. See you next year.

Finally it's here!! The schedule is up, so now you know what's going to be presented. As usual, the schedule is subject to change without notice so please try not to be mad at us....tapes don't always get to us on time!! We have made a few changes to the rules, starting with the way tapes can be returned. We hope this will make everyone happy ^_^ We will try to put up an english version of the rules asap. New tapes have been added to the Orient-Extreme library and the audio library has gone through a major face lift! So till the then, take care everyone.

    2000-08-12

Due to reasons out of our control, the fall season will begin on September the 2nd instead August 26th. Also note that the meeting room is now room B-2325 instead of B-2305. The meeting starts at 5h00 as usual. Don't forget to bring a blank unopened video tape (either TDK or Maxell only!) and a small picture (student pass size is plenty enough). We will not be giving them back this semester though. New cards will be issued to all members, we hope you will like the new desing ^_^ The rules have been modified, so please read them ^_^ The schedule will be posted as soon as I get a copy of it!! Sorry for the delay.

On another note, the Orient Extreme club is no more! Here is a memo from the president:

    Montréal le 30 juin 2000.

    Bonjour.

    2000-06-17

Today's the last meeting of the semester. Don't forget to bring back the audio/video tapes you have borrowed. The showing will resume on August 26th 2000, same time same place. At any rate, we will be posting here exactly where the meeting will be held. Also, we will be issuing new cards, so bring a small picture of yourself (in case we do not have on file...). From now on, we will only accept Maxell or TDK tapes, we have had problems with other brands so we would like to stick to those two brands only, sorry for any inconvenience. An english version of the rules should be up for the next semester, hopefully....some of the rules may change again, but nothing major. As usual, if you have any suggestions, links to submit, please write us and we will see what we can do ^_^ Have a great summer everyone.

    2000-06-06

I've finally came around to updating some of the links pages. A webring section has been added, some "new" online stores, fansub distributors, sites for specific anime series, have also been added. As I find others they will be added and if you have sites to suggest, by all means please do. I plan to add links to sites which cater to desktop themes, screen savers, wallpapers, etc. Anything that has to do with multimedia except MP3s and digitized fansubs.

Now it's official, the next meeting will be held on January 15, from 5 pm to 10 pm, but the room will be B-0245 (in the basement where we usually hold the Orient Extreme meetings). To the New members, do not forget to bring your picture and a blank unopened video tape. See you all there.

    About the schedule

As you may know, ever since Bandai Visual (through Anime Village) as promised to offer some of their titles, many domestic companies have litteraly bought everything they could get their hands on. So what's that have to do with our schedule? Well, we have always tried to show anime titles that were (and are) not available commercially. This means that as new titles are being released, they will be pulled off our schedule, and of course, they won't be in the club's video library. Since the release dates for many of those titles are not known, titles pending commercial release will still be included in the schedule untill further notice. Thank you for your understanding on this subject.

The Anime Central Club is a non-profit student organization dedicated to showing Japanese animation ("anime") to the Montreal community and the general public. Showings are usually held weekly at the University of Montreal, Jean-Brillant building, room B-2305, on Saturday nights from 5 to 10 pm.

    Membership

By paying $15 and bringing a BRAND NEW, UNOPENED (accepted brands are TDK or Maxell only) video tape anyone can become a member for a FULL YEAR. We also maintain a library of audio and video tapes, so members can check out one subtitled video tape and/or one audio tape per showing and tapes are due back at the next showing. As the club is not meeting in the summer, the library is not open during that season. Members also get discounts in many different comic shops all around Montreal. Finally, a small booklet is given to the members in which they will find the club rules as well as the video and audio tape lists and other information.
